District III SEC elections under way Saturday

Gerald Garner Jr. El Defensor Chieftain Editor, ggarner@dchieftain.com

Socorro Electric Cooperative Board of Trustees elections continue this weekend with a trio of seats up for grabs in District III.

District III envelops all of Socorro proper.

The first race Position I features the biggest field of candidates with incumbent Milton Ulibarri hoping to stave off challenges from Pete Martinez, Susan Miller and Rumaldo Chavez.

Position II will see incumbent Leroy Anaya and challengers Prescilla Mauldin and Frank Hack battle it out.

The Position III race pits incumbent Manuel Marquez against Donald L. Wolberg.

All of the District III Socorro proper elections begin at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 18 at Finley Gym in Socorro. Immediately after the elections wrap, district membership meetings begin (7 p.m.).

Candidates were asked to respond to the following questions:

I. Why are you seeking election or re-election to the Board of Trustees>

II. In your own words, explain what you feel a trustee's duties and responsibilities are.

III. Are you satisfied with the current construct of the 11-member board? If not, why?

IV. As a member-owned cooperative, do you feel that members have enough access to information?

V. What do our readers need to know about you that make you qualified to hold a trustee position?

The candidates' responses follow. Space constraints prevent us from duplicating the questions in each profile.
