El Defensor Chieftain Reader’s Choice for best coach and best insurance agent is Damien Ocampo, who led the Socorro High School Warriors football team to an 11-1 record while offering insurance and financial advice through State Farm Insurance.

Many people don’t realize that State Farm Insurance also offers financial advice and planning, and Ocampo has been doing it for more than seven years now and loves his job.

“We have a great team here at State Farm, which has made us successful. Everyone here is willing to step up and help you,” Ocampo said.

Just like any good team, the players have their specialties, with his agents concentrating on insurance and Ocampo working on helping plan financial futures.

“I truly come to work and try to do the very best I can for every one of my customers, and so do my team members. They’re all rockstars – now, none of us are perfect. I can promise if we’re wrong. We won’t be wrong for long,” Ocampo said. “They do much of the day-to-day insurance stuff, and I handle more complex things. And then, I do the financial planning. I handle 401 Ks, and I handle IRAs. I handle a bunch of different assets and investments for our customers.”

It’s an excellent asset for Socorro, which isn’t running over with financial planners due to the size of its population.
