On Monday, four new businesses were approved during Socorro’s city council meeting.

Dr. Devan Vest will be opening Rio Grande Orthodontics LLC at 828 US 60.

Sandra Martinez was approved for Sandra Martinez Designs which is considered handicraft sales.

A home based internet sporting goods sales business called Walker Outdoors will be opened by Thomas Walker. The business will focus on hunting, camping and outdoor supplies. Before Walker’s business registration could be approved, his home occupation permit needed approval from the council. According to the permit, traffic in the neighborhood will not increase and there will not be trucks constantly delivering inventory. In a letter to the council, Walker said that he does not intend to hold delivery in his house or sell to customers face-to-face.

Walker also wrote that if his business does grow to a level where he requires a store front, he will change his physical address.
