Alfredo M. Chavez

1940-2022

Alfredo M. Chavez, 82, of Socorro, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 6, 2022.

Born on September 3, 1940 to Gregorio and Senaida Chavez in McNary, Arizona where he spent his childhood with his nine siblings. After graduating from Mc Nary High School in 1958, he went on to receive a Master’s degree in education from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona. He traveled most of his adult life doing what he loved, teaching.

After retirement he lived in El Paso, Texas for several years. He moved to Socorro, New Mexico to be closer to his sisters where he resided until his passing. Alfredo’s greatest joy derived from his family providing a caring, loving, support, and kind influence in the lives of all he touched. Although he did not have any biological children, he loved all his cousins, nieces, nephews, and students whom he considered his children. During Alfredo’s life, he was a devoted Catholic, attending mass regularly.

Alfredo’s humor and love will always be remembered and cherished by all that knew him. Alfredo was preceded in death by his parents Gregorio and Senaida Chavez; his siblings, Ulban Chavez, Clifford Chavez, Juanita Perea, Ignacia Maestas, Rachel Vallejos, Mayme Aragon and Orlando Chavez. He is survived by his sister Mary Ulibarri, Audrey Alonzo, and many God-children, nieces, nephews, cousins and beloved students.

Services will be held on Friday, November 18 at 9:30 a.m. for Rosary and 10 a.m. for Funeral Mass at San Miguel Church in Socorro, New Mexico with burial and reception to follow.
