Nov. 18, 1926 – Dec. 16, 2020

Anne Lee Montoya

Anne Lee Montoya, age 94, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2020 in Socorro. She was born to Eufracio Padilla and Apolonia (Gonzales) Padilla on Nov. 18, 1926 in San Antonito. She married the love of her life, Heraclio “Laco” Montoya, Jr. on June 17, 1946, who preceded her in death.

She is survived by her son, John A. Montoya and wife Diana of San Antonio; Granddaughter, Melinda Montoya, and Great-Granddaughter, Kayla Vanlandingham of Cortez, CO; Granddaughter, Eva Montoya of Albuquerque, N.M.; and Grandson, Michael Montoya of Albuquerque, N.M.

She is also survived by her sisters and brothers: Delfina Reyes, Rosina Armijo, Tiburcio Padilla and wife, Emma; Donald Padilla and wife, Jennie; Jose Padilla and wife, Renate; Eufracio Edward Padilla and wife, Gloria; and Clarence Padilla.

Anne Lee was the third oldest of thirteen children and is preceded in death by her parents, Eufracio and Apolonia; brother, Antonio Padilla; and sisters, Nicanora Padilla, Lucia Chavez, Estella Munoz, Joaquina C. Trujillo, and Cecilia Woodward.

Anne Lee was a spirited woman who lived during a time of little. She was surrounded by a large and loving family, which gave her the capacity to give with a full heart. She married Laco and they had many adventures, traveled, frequented dance halls, caught many a fish, and she also had the greenest thumb in the neighborhood.

She found fulfillment in her son John, who gave her three grandchildren and eventually a great-granddaughter, all of whom she loved unconditionally.

She loved to travel and her trips to town; but more than anything, she cherished her trip to Spain with her granddaughter, Eva; and in her final years, rides with her grandson, Michael, to family gatherings around San Antonio, which brought her great joy.

She enjoyed having morning coffee with her family, watching her hummingbirds, and making sure that every cat in town had kibble. Her African Violets always bloomed and her chile was the best, as was everything that came out of her kitchen.

She always gave of herself, providing care for Uncle Juan, her brother-inlaw, Joaquin; and also her husband, Laco as their journeys here came to an end.

She loved everyone and had a seat at her table for everyone, along with a meal and a story. She was a kind woman who cherished beauty, loved to care for others, and created a legacy in her actions that have rippled through all those she has touched. Her family loves her very much.

A private graveside service will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at the San Antonio Catholic Cemetery.

The service will be broadcast on 88.1 FM for those who are not able to attend the service due to COVID-19 restrictions.

In Lieu of flowers, family has asked that donations be made in Anne’s honor to either Good Samaritan Nursing Home, 1203 Highway 60, Socorro, N.M. 87801; or San Miguel Catholic Church, 403 El Camino Real, Socorro, N.M. 87801.
