Athlete of the Week: Marcus Armijo

Junior Socorro Warriors star quarterback and safety Marcus Armijo was a big part of the team’s highly successful 2021 season. A year that resulted in a deep playoff run.

Question: How long have you been playing football?

Answer: Since seventh grade. It has been a real blessing since I started to hit the field.

Q: What is the most important part about playing football?

A: You have to be tough and you can’t get down right away. Bad things are going to happen but you always try to find a way to lift yourself and your teammates up.

Q: Playing both sides of the game, what is your favorite position?

A: Quarterback. I love handling the ball. It’s just fun having the ball in your hands.

Q: As a quarterback, how do you lead this team?

A: By example. Be as vocal as possible on every play with my guys so we can score.

Q: What is your favorite and least favorite part about playing football?

A: My favorite is scoring touchdowns. There is nothing better than that. My least favorite part of the game, I really don’t have one. I love playing football.

Q: Is there anything from this season you would like to take back?

A: I could have put more hours in practice to help our team. I would tell the upcoming players to put their time in preparation and just fall in love with the game. When you fall in love playing you just want to get better all the time.

Q: Do you play other sports?

A: Yes, I play basketball, track and baseball. But by far my favorite is football.

Q: What sport that you do not play is your favorite?

A: I like watching soccer. I have a lot of friends who play soccer so seeing them play is always great.

Q: What is your favorite Olympic sport?

A: I love track & field. Those are the best athletes in the world. From the 400 meter and all the way down. I love watching them compete.

Q: Who is your favorite athlete?

A: Michael Jordan. He’s the greatest of all time and preaches that if you put in the work you can find success no matter what it is you do.

Q: If you could play in any other sport, what would that be?

A: Probably boxing. I love watching boxing. I like the contact of football and I feel like boxing would be fun.

Q: If you could have dinner with any person in history, who would that be?

A: Jay-Z. He’s rich and he knows how to make money. Simple as that.
