Beatrice Lopez

Beatrice Garcia Lopez, 76, went to be with her Savior on Nov. 17, 2020, at her home with her loving family by her side. Beatrice was born in Socorro on March 28, 1944, to Benjamin Garcia and Juanita Contreras. On July 9, 1960, she married the love of her life, Jose Bernardo Lopez. Together, they had two wonderful daughters, Renay Gutierrez and Mary “Dodie” Lopez.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Jose Bernardo Lopez; her parents, a daughter, Maryanne; sisters, Genevieve Tafoya and Olivia Salcido; a brother, Antonio Garcia; niece, Nadine Armijo-Sanchez; also her beloved cat, BabyCakes.

She is survived by her two daughters, Renay Gutierrez and boyfriend, Danny Savedra, and Mary “Dodie” Lopez; five granddaughters, Denise Ortega and husband, Rick Taylor, Erica Lopez, Tara Valdez and husband, Chris Valdez, Samantha Silva and husband, Rojelio “Junior” Silva, and Jessica Lopez and boyfriend, James Green; 10 great-grandchildren, Markeisha Lopez and boyfriend, Damion Ibarra, Alissa Baca and boyfriend, Devin Sedillo, Rojelio “RJ” Silva III, Eva, Elizabeth, Christopher “CJ” Jr., Adam, Eden, Sky and Lucas; one great-granddaughter, Alani Ibarra-Lopez; sisters, Marian Rogers and husband, Glen Rogers, of Wichita Falls, Texas, Rose “Helen” Ortega and husband, Jilberto Ortega, of Dalhart, Texas; and brother, Robert Contreras and wife, Evelyn Contreras; and many other nieces and nephews and family.

At the age of 16, she married Jose and became a homemaker and occasionally worked at the San Miguel Inn for many years. She and Jose were avid members of the El Buen Pastor Church, where she gave herself to the Lord and was baptized.

At the time of her husband’s death, she became paralyzed from the waist down due to surgery complications.

She loved to watch her soap operas, game shows, “Greys Anatomy,” Chicago shows, “Naked and Afraid” and “Dancing with the Stars.”

Beatrice loved to donate money to different charities, such as ASPCA, Children’s Miracle Network, Shriners and St. Jude’s for many years. She also loved going to the zoo and you could always catch her reading her Bible or praying! She loved playing on her tablet as well.

As a grandmother, she made the best tortillas, chile rellenos, biscochitos and sweet rice.

Tom Jones was her favorite singer, too.

Pallbearers will be Danny Savedra, Rick Taylor, Chris Valdez, Junior Silva, James Green, Damion Ibarra, Devin Sedillo and RJ Silva III. Honorary pallbearers will be all her greatgrandchildren and her one great great-granddaughter.

Beatrice fought long and hard as long as she could. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and all who knew her.

A celebration of life will be celebrated at a later date.
