Eighth-grader Jaydon Candelaria tossed a three-hitter and struck out nine batters, and Steers’ senior Kaleb Castanon collected three hits as Magdalena (1-2) picked up its first win of the season with a 15-1 victory against Elida (3-2) on March 24.

Magdalena owned a commanding 8-0 lead after the first inning and tacked on runs in every inning.

With a comfortable lead, Candelaria allowed just three hits and one run and showed great control with only one issued walk. Candelaria helped his cause with a pair of runs scored.

Ayden Hershbach, Joseph Zamora, Candelaria, Shane Montoya and Javen Tafoya added one hit to the Steers’ totals.

Zamora was the top run scorer for Magdalena with three, while Kaleb Castanon, Candeleria, and Tafoya scored two each. Also adding to Steers’ run totals were Jaramillo, Hershbach, Mathew Parker, Josh Baca, and Shane Montoya, with one run scored.

Magdalena’s next home games are set for April 4, with a doubleheader against Grady at 1 and 3 p.m.
