Darice Lee Martin

1957-2022

Darice Lee Martin (Dee), of San Acacia, N.M. passed away on January 12, 2022.

Dee was born on October 21, 1957, in Oshkosh, Neb. to Genevieve and Robert Scripter. She grew up on the family ranch east of Lewellen where she learned to swim in Clear Creek, enjoyed horseback riding, and raised orphaned lambs. Her school career included grade school in District 27 (a one room country school), Lewellen Rural High School, and Western Nebraska Technical College. In school she was a student manager for three years, active in sports and pep club. While attending college she met and fell in love with Lawrence Martin.

Darice and Lawrence were married on March 11, 1978, and began their life together in Craig, Colo. They raised their family with a passion for animals, farming and ranching. While in Craig, Darice worked a variety of service and sales jobs including time at Martin Insurance and the Natural Health store. Her work at the health store led to a passion for using homeopathic medicine to keep her family and herself healthy. Dee’s reason for getting up each and every day was the love of her family and her animals; they were everything to her.

In 2006 Dee and Lawrence moved to San Acacia, N.M. Dee continued to work in customer service and sales. She also enjoyed working side by side with her husband, Lawrence, on the family ranch. A passion of hers was tending to her animals and cooking with the fresh milk, butter, meat, and eggs. Around the ranch there was almost always a batch of kittens or puppies that Dee was nurturing. Along with all the time outdoors, Dee enjoyed computer work, reading, and Hallmark movies. Darice lived her whole life as a cowgirl; she truly lived the Cowgirl Way: honest, true, hardworking, respectful and giving.

Darice is survived by her loving husband Lawrence Martin, mother-in-law Laveta Martin, son Earl Martin (Kelly), son Forrest Martin, sister Diane Kiolbasa (Richard), and her grandchildren, Raelee and Elden Martin, nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her son Francis, daughter Florence, niece Pauline Forney, brother Robert E Scripter Jr, parents, grandparents, father-in-law, cousins, aunts and uncles.

A memorial service will be held at the Polvadera Fire Station, 605 Highway 408, on March 19, 2022, at 11 a.m.
