David Castillo

David Neal Castillo, 45, passed away on Monday, December 19, 2022 at his home in Socorro, N.M. David was born on May 15, 1977 in Albuquerque, N.M. to Paul L. Castillo Sr., and Kathleen A. (McNeal) Castillo.

He is survived by his wife, Valerie (Maez) Castillo; his loving parents, Paul Lee Castillo Sr., and stepmother Barbara J. Castillo, and mother, Kathleen A. McNeal; sister Missy (Castillo) Hillyard and husband John; brother, Patrick A. Castillo; stepbrother, Vaughn Spence and wife, Charlene; daughter Jayde A. Castillo and husband Frank Sakhareh; stepchildren, Monique Maez and husband Vince Maribal, Marissa Wilson, Meranda Wilson, and Daniel Wilson; grandchildren, uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.

David was a lifelong resident of Socorro. He was a kind man who liked helping others. He found solace spending time in nature and especially enjoyed fishing. He watched sports of all types, but boxing, baseball and football were his favorites. He was an avid boxer and a five-time amateur level State Boxing Champion, two-time Regional Champion and at one point was ranked #3 in the nation for his weight class before turning professional. He was a dedicated Chicago Cubs and Green Bay Packers fan.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Pablo and Rafelita (Lopez) Castillo, David and Ellen (Byrne) Adams and Clinton and Jean McNeal; brother, Paul Lee Castillo Jr.; stepbrother, Mark Spence; uncles, aunts and other relatives.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, January 6, 2023 at 10 a.m. at the San Miguel Mission, in Socorro, N.M. with Father Hickman as Celebrant. Interment will take place at the Socorro Cemetery immediately following church services.

Honorary Pallbearers are: Vaughn Spence, Victor Castillo, Kenneth Castillo, Wallace (Lefty) Gonzales, Paul Lee Castillo III and Patrick Torres.
