The annual Frontier Festival in Magdalena on June 11 offered demonstrations on pioneer life skills like blacksmithing and dying wool. The festival included a parade of festively dressed pets, with trophies for winners in multiple categories. Jayme King, the state Game and Fish officer for the Socorro district, and Magdalena district officer Larramy Roberts educated the public on wildlife found in the region. Kelly and Bryan Shillington brought their wares to sell at Frontier Fest. The Datil couple craft wooden utensils and collect rocks in the region.  Magdalena Mayor Richard Rumpf demonstrated blacksmithing.
