Gilbert Sanchez

1945-2022

Gilbert Sanchez, beloved husband and father, went to join our family angels on July 24, 2022.

He was born Oct. 31, 1945, to Felix Sanchez and Rita Orona Sanchez.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara, and his son, Eric. He was Papa to his grand-dog, Chompie.

He loved his wife, Barbara, and his son, Eric, with his whole heart and soul, and he told them this every day of his life.

He is also survived by his brother Joe Sanchez (Helen); his sister, Maria Sanchez; sister-in-law Darlene Sanchez; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother John “Jimmy” Sanchez and his nephew Johnathan Patrick Sanchez.

Gilbert was always a hard worker and took pride in the work he did. He held many jobs during his lifetime.

He worked for the U.S. Forest Service, where he was asked to be on a “hot shot” crew. He worked for E-Systems when it was constructing the satellite dishes for the Very Large Array on the San Agustin Plains.

He then worked for the Magdalena schools as director of maintenance. He moved to Socorro Consolidated Schools, where he also worked in maintenance and retired after 27 years of service.

Gilbert loved hunting, fishing and camping. He loved the mountains and the great outdoors.

He enjoyed gambling and going to the casinos. He also loved to travel.

Gilbert had a wonderful way about him that everyone who knew him loved.

He enjoyed the call from his friend Ruben, who called him on a weekly basis. And his friend Leonce, who picked him up to go for a ride to the farm on a daily basis.

There are no words to describe the feelings that Barbara and Eric feel. He will be the husband and father who will remain in our hearts forever.
