The best part of working at the library is the people, said Conor McFadden.

Conor McFadden is a lifelong Socorroan who works at the Socorro Public Library.

What do you do for a living?

Right now, I’m currently working here at the library part time and a second job at Socorro Springs.

What’s the best part of working at the library?

Best part is probably the people that come in. There’s a lot of fun faces that come in.

Do you have regulars that you get to know?

If I do get to know them it’s a pretty slow pace, but there are a lot of regulars that come in.

What’s it like working at Socorro Springs?

It’s pretty fun. Everybody working there has good spirit and it’s pretty fun there. The business kind of keeps you up pace and it’s done a lot of healing after the whole COVID thing everybody went through, so it’s pretty fun.

How long have you lived in Socorro?

My whole life. I was born here and then I’ve just been raised here.

What’s the best part of living here?

The best part is how small of a town it is, just so you can get a nice easy start and the fact that there’s a lot of big cities within easy reach that you can go to, to do anything else.

What do you do for fun?

What I like to do for fun is I go out, sometimes later at night, and I’ll go out skateboarding or longboarding around either the Tech institute or near Clark Field.

Are there a lot of skateboarders out and about?

There’s a few. I don’t see them very often, but there’s a good few. Especially college students at Tech, they usually ride around to get to classes.

How’d you get into skateboarding?

My brother had a few longboards in his house, and I decided to try and ride a few, and eventually I decided that’s what I wanted to do so I picked one up for myself and just got out there with it.

Do you have any advice for anyone who wants to try it out?

Best advice is learn how to fall right, so you don’t hurt yourself.

Do you have a favorite movie?

Favorite movie would probably be Halloween. Just cause horror’s always been something I wanted to watch, something I wanted to get in to and Halloween’s, it’s old, it’s cheesy, it’s classic, this guys a big scary guy, and I’ve just always been interested in the horror aspect of it.

What would you do if you won the lottery?

Honestly, I don’t know. I’ve never put thought into if I won the lottery. I’d probably put money into family. Just branch a bunch and give it out to everybody.

If you could change anything about Socorro, what would it be?

The one thing I would change, if I could, which I probably can’t, is the education, cause it could use a bit of touch up, you know from personal experience. It’s really laid back and it’s a lot easier than you would assume. There’s a lot of slack in the school and so I feel like a lot of them miss out on important education.
