Irene Spears

1937-2023

Irene Vivian Spears (Gordanier), 85, passed away on Feb. 3, 2023.

She was born March 10, 1937, in Magdalena, N.M., to Leona Harris Magum (Peewee) and Joseph Bailey Gordanier.

Irene is survived by her granddaughter, La Shay Irene Marks; numerous nieces and nephews, many cousins, friends and loved ones.

She preceded in death by her sister, Sayward Harris; daughter, Marsha Lou Creek (Marks); son, Dwayne Gordanier; her mother and father; and grandparents, Mary Irene Goodrum, Sayward Sid Gordanier, Martha Lou Kincy and Samuel Augustus Harris.

Irene was a resident of Magdalena for most of her life, and Valencia County for around 20 years. The last four years she spent with her granddaughter in Albuquerque.

Irene was a wonderful and beautiful woman, who loved her family and Jesus Christ. She was a member of the Magdalena Community Presbyterian Church before joining New Life Fellowship Church in Belen 15 years ago.

In her later years, Irene enjoyed volunteering her “grandmotherly duties” to El Ranchito De Los Ninos from 2011 to 2016. Irene enjoyed traveling, working as a hunting-camp cook, camping in the mountains, reading, doing crafts, but most of all spending time with her family and granddaughter. She was dearly loved by the ones closest to her and will be greatly missed.

A private viewing was held on Feb. 14.

In a lieu of flowers, Irene requested that all donations be given to El Ranchito De Los Ninos, 02 Tammie Lee Lane, Los Lunas, NM, 87031; 505-565-4470, a nonprofit children’s home in Los Lunas. She chose this organization in the hopes to help in the fight to help keep brothers and sisters together.

Arrangements were handled by the caring professionals at the Noblin Funeral Service Belen Chapel, 418 W. Reinken Ave., where an online guest register is available at noblinfuneralservice.com.
