Kenneth Vernon Bostick


On May 28, 2022, Kenneth Vernon Bostick, loving husband, father and grandfather, peacefully passed away at home after battling cancer. Ken’s cremains will be interred at the Fort Bayard National Cemetery on July 29, 2022, at 11 a.m. After the memorial service, there will be a reception at his brother Darwin’s home in Mimbres, N.M.

Kenneth was born on Oct. 2, 1942, in Albuquerque, N.M., to Maurine Elizabeth Judd Bostick and Vernon Brower Bostick. Kenneth attended college at New Mexico State University and The College of Santa Fe.

He served in the United States Army, which included a tour in Vietnam. Kenneth began his career at the Nevada Test Site in the early 1960s. In 1972, he began what would become a distinguished career at Los Alamos National Laboratory.

Ken married Sharon Jean Hercl, née Stephan, on Aug. 17, 1991.

After retirement, he and Sharon moved to Pie Town, N.M., where he volunteered for several organizations, including the Pie Town Community Council and the Pie Town Volunteer Fire Department. In 2018, Kenneth and Sharon moved to Las Cruces, where he volunteered for three years at the New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon Jean Bostick; his children, Kimberlee Lynn Schroeppel of Springville, Utah, Kallie Mae Firestone of Cambridge, Mass., and Kenneth Judd Bostick of Tucson, Ariz.; and his stepsons, Gary Hercl of Houston, Texas, Timothy Hercl of South Elgin, Ill., and Paul Hercl of Corpus Christi, Texas, their spouses and children. Kenneth has two surviving brothers, Darwin Bleak and Harry Bostick.

He was preceded in death by his sister, LaRue Gibbons, and his stepson, Daniel Hercl.

Kenneth will be interred at Bayard National Cemetery on July 29, 2022.
