The following items were taken from reports at the Socorro Police Department.

Aug. 15

An officer received a call for service at 9:50 a.m. to the 1400 block of NE Frontage Road where a female reported several items taken from her residence over on El Camino Real. She said she was missing a 25-piece china set, an old­ fashioned meat grinder and Kennedy half-dollar coins in $10 wrappers. She said the coins were located inside her safe on El Camino Real. She stated her nephew, who is her power of attorney, has a key to the residence and provided a phone number for him. The officer contacted the nephew and an arrangement was made to let the officer into the residence. The nephew told the officer his aunt is very forgetful in her elderly state. The officer was able to locate the china set but they were unable to get the safe open. The victim said she remembered she gifted two $10 rolls of the Kennedy half dollars to the nephew but was unsure where the other five rolls were located. No more info at this time.

Aug. 16

An officer was dispatched at 7:34 p.m. to Walmart where a male had snuck out the back door with several items. The officer filed shoplifting charges against the suspect.

Aug. 17

An officer was called at 1:28 p.m. to the 500 block of Bullock in reference to a theft. The victim stated he had phones delivered to his residence, but he never received the phones. He said the phones cost $1,192.31.

An officer met a female at 4:15 p.m. at the Socorro Police Department who explained she was having problems with her car battery. She stated she was checking it over when she noticed a device she didn’t recognize. She said she was informed the device was a tracking device.

Aug. 18

An officer was dispatched at 4:21 a.m. to the cemetery on Blue Canyon Road where a backpack was found. The officer met with a male who located a backpack that contained a large amount of money and drugs. The officer took possession of the backpack and got a search warrant. Inside the backpack was a large amount of money, vehicle titles and narcotics. The officer is working with the District Attorney’s office on the case.

An officer was called to the 200 block of Otero for a trespassing. The officer met with the suspect and found he had an active warrant for his arrest. The officer attempted to place the suspect under arrest, but he resisted. Officers were able to take him into custody after a short altercation. He was booked into the SCDC on the warrant, plus charges of assault on a peace officer and resisting an officer.

An officer was called at 11 a.m. to the Socorro Police Department to meet a male wanting to report an assault. The victim stated the suspect entered his church armed with a screwdriver and was acting aggressively. The victim said he felt that he was going to be stabbed. The officer contacted the suspect who became argumentative. His information was run through NCIC which showed he had an active warrant for his arrest. After a short altercation, the suspect was placed under arrest and transported to SCDC and booked on the warrant plus the charge of aggravated assault.

An officer was patrolling in the vicinity of Park Street and noticed a vehicle with no license plate.  A traffic stop was conducted, and the officer located a temporary tag on the vehicle and ran it through NCIC. The driver was found to have a suspended driver’s license and was unable to provide registration and insurance for the vehicle. The officer identified the passenger from previous contacts and ran the passenger’s information through NCIC. The passenger had active warrants and was placed under arrest. The driver was asked to exit the vehicle prior to the tow inventory, and located a wallet belonging to the driver. The wallet held narcotics and the driver was placed under arrest. Both driver and passenger were transported to SCDC and booked on their respective charges.

Aug. 19

An officer was dispatched to a vehicle crash on the Interstate 25 off-ramp where the male driver had run into a light pole. Officer noticed signs of intoxication on the driver and called EMTs to check on him, but he refused medical attention. Standard field sobriety tests were performed, and probable cause was determined. The male was arrested for DWI. He provided breath samples into the IR-8000 with the results being .24 and .22. He was incarcerated at Socorro County Detention Center for his DWI, as well as charges of open container, possession of a controlled substance, fictitious license plate, suspended driver’s license, no registration or insurance and an active arrest warrant.

An officer was dispatched at 6:33 a.m. to Holiday Inn Express for a burglary. The officer met with a male who showed the officer where his work truck had been broken into. The officer did see where a window was broken. The victim said nothing was missing from the vehicle.

Aug. 20

Officers responded to a large fight at a local bar. Officers met with a female who resisted and was unruly and pushed an officer while being detained. She was arrested and incarcerated at Socorro County Detention Center for battery on a peace officer, resisting an officer and disorderly conduct.

An officer was dispatched at 8:22 a.m. to a residence in the 300 block of C Street for a breaking and entering report. The victim said she was in the process of moving and when she returned, she noticed her home broken into. The officer did see where entry was made through a window. The officer tried to take fingerprints, but they were smudged. The victim said she noticed no items were missing from the residence.

An officer was dispatched at 9:50 a.m. to the plaza for a parking dispute. A male was complaining about a female taking his parking space. The officer advised him there were no assigned parking spaces there. The officer then met with a female who was also told there were no assigned parking spaces. Both parties were advised the incident was a civil matter.

Aug. 21

An officer was dispatched at 10:06 a.m. to Best Western for a larceny from a motor vehicle. The victim stated his vehicle had been broken into and showed the officer where entry was made through a sliding back window. The officer was given a list of all items that were taken.

An officer was called at 4:37 p.m. to a burglary at Little Caesars Pizza. The officer met with the reporting person who said a male had entered the business using a key recently lost by her. The male damaged the lock to the safe and left when the alarm activated.

Aug. 22

Officers were dispatched at 3:01 p.m. to a residence on Peralta Drive where a male was battered with a bat. The officer met with a male who said another male had hit him with a bat and then stabbed him. He said the suspect blamed him for being with his girlfriend. The officer called for EMTs to look at the victim, who rejected medical help. Charges of Aggravated battery with a deadly weapon have been filed against the suspect.

An officer was dispatched at 12:17 p.m. to China Best for a juvenile fighting with her mother. The officer arrived and found the female sitting in the back of a sheriff’s deputy’s vehicle. The deputy said the juvenile was on top of her mother hitting her with her cell phone. The officer spoke with the mother who wanted to pursue charges. The juvenile was transported to Socorro Police Department where JPPO was called. JPPO said the juvenile did not score high enough to be placed into a juvenile facility. CYFD was then called and transported the juvenile to Albuquerque for a mental evaluation.

Aug. 23

An officer was dispatched to a residence in the 900 block of School of Mines for vehicle theft. The female victim gave the officer a description of her stolen car and it was entered into NCIC. The vehicle was located a short time later. The officer attempted to pull fingerprints from it but could not get a full print.

An officer was dispatched at 6:53 p.m. to the 100 block of Neel Street to take a report on a theft. The female complainant stated someone stole her grandson’s shoes out of his bag while he was at football practice at Socorro High School. The officer was told he left his book bag in the gymnasium with his Air Jordan 4 shoes inside the bag while he went to football practice, and when he came back his shoes were gone. The officer was told there are cameras in the gymnasium. The shoes are valued by way of purchase receipt at $358.92.

An officer was dispatched at 10:01 a.m. to the 300 block of Garfield for a bicycle stolen from the victim’s yard. The victim said an unknown individual had come into her yard, cut the chain which was securing the bike, and left with the bike. The bike was a red Trek Mountain Bike with white markings. She provided a serial number and signed a theft declaration, and it was entered into NCIC.

An officer was dispatched at 5:24 p.m. for a breaking and entering in the 1100 block of Evergreen Drive. The officer met with a female who said sometime in the night, an unknown individual opened her unlocked door and took items from her vehicle, including the vehicle’s registration, sunglasses holder, ashtray and the Mini Cooper owner’s manual. The unknown person also stuffed something in both of her exhaust pipes to plug them. There are no suspects at this time.

Aug. 24

An officer was called to an apartment in the 900 block of School of Mines Road to take a theft report. The victim stated he was gone for approximately one day and when he returned the doormat from his front door was moved over to his neighbor’s door. He said he had a package that was supposed to be delivered and he did not receive it. He thinks the neighbor took the package. Officer met with the neighbor who stated she did not have anything to do with the theft of the package or moving the doormat.

An officer was called to another apartment in the 900 block of School of Mines Road for a wallet being found. The officer arrived and met with the reporting person, who turned in the wallet.

An officer was called at 10:47 p.m. to a residence in the 300 block of Fisher Avenue for attempted theft. The victim stated he caught a female taking property from his porch. He confronted her and was able to recover his property. The victim stated he wanted the incident documented.

Aug. 25

An officer called at 6:02 p.m. to Ake Avenue for an unresponsive male. The reporting person stated she hadn’t seen the man in a few days and wanted to check on him. She entered the home and located the male in the bathroom unresponsive. The officer entered and found the male deceased. OMI arrived and processed the scene. Daniels Funeral Home arrived and took possession of the deceased.

An officer was called at 9:42 a.m. to Animal Haven in reference to damage to property. The officer met with the victim who stated she observed the suspect on video arrive at the business when it was closed and damage the gate. She was able to identify the suspect as a client and provided the officer with their address. Officer met with the suspect who admitted to damaging the gate.
