The following items were taken from reports at the Socorro Police Department

June 25

A male in the 700 block of Cuba Road reported at 12:45 p.m. that he was leaving his home for a short time and noticed two other males walking toward his home, and believed one of the males to be his grandson. When he returned home he found a screen window was taken off and the window open. He said he immediately checked for his Ruger Mark 1 .22 caliber handgun and discovered it missing. The victim estimated the handgun was valued at about $400. The gun was previously reported stolen in 2004, and the serial number was found by the officer in the previous report. The victim later signed a theft declaration and the handgun was entered NCIC. The victim’s grandson has not been located for questioning at time of report.

An officer on patrol at 1:40 p.m. noticed a home on Baca Street that had a window open. The home was checked and the window was secured. Before leaving the area the officer noticed a car parked across the street from the home. When the officer passed, the vehicle left and the officer followed the car to complete a traffic stop on the vehicle. As the car was stopping, a male passenger jumped out of the car and began running. The male was known to have a valid arrest warrant and was caught after a short chase. The suspect was arrested and taken to the police department where he said he had disposed of an item while speaking with an unknown person on the phone. The officer checked the immediate area but did not locate anything. The suspect was taken to the SCDC for booking where he was asked to open his mouth for inspection. The suspect did not comply, claiming it was chewing gum and he would spit it out. The suspect then said he swallowed it instead. He was checked again and still had an object concealed in his mouth. As the jail staff was attempted to retrieve the object the suspect was able to swallow it. The jail staff asked him what he swallowed. The suspect said it was a gram of heroin. The suspect was accepted to the jail and was being monitored. The jail staff told the officer the suspect had a small amount of heroin concealed in his buttocks. The evidence was turned over to police on the following day and was tested. The test was positive for heroin. The evidence was logged at the police dept.

Officers were called to a home in the 500 block of Park Street for an argument where the suspect was not letting the victim leave. The officer knocked at the door and the female victim, who had a swollen and red left eye, answered. The victim said she was in an argument with the suspect and she was going to leave with their children, but he would not let her take the children. The officers spoke with the suspect who admitted there was an argument and some shoving. He was then asked about the injury to her eye, and he said he didn’t know anything about it. The suspect was arrested and booked at the SCDC. The victim left the home with the children.

A caller reported at 5:15 p.m. that he received a call from a phone number that originated in Mexico. The person on the phone told the victim he was going to kidnap his granddaughter and daughter, and then had a small child speak on the phone. When the victim began asking for the child’s name the suspect ended the call. The officer was provided with the calling number. The victim was advised there are people that call and claim they have family members in order to obtain money from the victim, even though the suspects do not have any contact with the victim or family. The suspect is not known at this time.

Officers were given a BOLO by an assisting agency at 6:56 p.m. to look for a suspect vehicle. The officers were able to locate the suspect vehicle on NW Frontage Road. Deputies arrived and began speaking with the suspect, but had to answer a priority call. The officer completed an NCIC check on the suspect, who was shown to have a valid warrant. The suspect was arrested and booked SCDC.

June 26

Officers were called at 1:36 a.m. to a home on Proto to remove a male suspect. The caller said the suspect also had a valid arrest warrant. On arrival, the officers were escorted into a bedroom where the suspect was sleeping. They woke him up and advised him of the situation, and that an NCIC check confirmed he had a warrant for his arrest. The suspect was arrested and booked into the SCDC.

A woman on Granada reported that the suspect came to the home to visit the children and then asked to use the bathroom. She declined to let the suspect in and he became upset and began cursing at her. As the suspect was leaving, he punched a vehicle in the yard, then entered his own vehicle and drove off at a high rate of speed. The victim did not want charges filed but wanted the incident documented.

An officer was called at 2:15 p.m. to a home in the 700 block of Texas on the report of a fight. The officer met with several victims who stated a male suspect beat up a woman he was dating. The male suspect was said to have punched her and kicked her several times in the face and head. The suspect also attacked three other subjects. A male victim was pushed to the ground, a second female victim was slapped, and a second male victim was slapped and had his money taken by the suspect. The first female victim advised the male suspect was upset and doing methamphetamine this morning. The suspect was located at the homeless shelter and said he did not hit anyone, claiming instead that he was the one who was struck. The suspect was placed under arrest and found to be in possession of a small amount of methamphetamine. He also had $16 in his pocket. The suspect was taken to the police department for processing and later booked at the SCDC. The evidence was logged at the police department.

An officer was dispatched at 3:34 p.m. to a residence on  S. California Street on an assault call. The victim told the officer he was being chased by the suspect. The victim said the suspect was friends with the victim’s boyfriend and the suspect did not like him. The victim said the suspect has assaulted and threatened him previously. This time he was able to run away from the suspect. The officer attempted to locate the suspect at a residence, but the suspect was not home.

June 27

An officer was dispatched at 12:15 a.m. to check on a male hanging around an empty lot on Park Street. A check with NCIC showed him to have an active warrant. He was arrested and incarcerated at Socorro County Detention Center.

A vehicle was pulled over at 3:18 a.m. on Interstate 25 at mile marker 148. During the stop, the driver admitted to not having a valid driver’s license. The driver provided documents for the car, but the documents did not match the vehicle information. The officer advised the suspect that the car would be towed. The tow inventory turned up a plastic baggie containing a brown substance, believed to be a controlled substance. The suspect and passenger were detained. The officer completed the tow inventory and also found a clear plastic baggie with a crystal substance. The items were collected as evidence. The suspect said the male passenger did not use drugs and he was released. The suspect was taken to the police department for processing and later booked into the SCDC.

An officer was dispatched to the 200 block of Manzanares to remove a male who was sleeping in the victim’s vehicle. The suspect was removed from the car and detained. The officer met with the victim who said she had seen the suspect walking around her car the previous night, and had told the suspect to leave the area. The victim added that the suspect attempted to remove her car stereo. The victim also said the suspect threatened to harm her when she told him to leave. The suspect was arrested and booked into the SCDC.

A woman reported at 4:51 p.m. of using the self-checkout at Wal-Mart and leaving her phone there. The officer was able to view the video from the store and observed the victim setting the phone down on the register and then leaving. A male suspect then used the same check-out station and picked up the phone. The video shows the victim returning and looking for the phone. The officer was not able to identify the male suspect in the video.

An officer stopped a vehicle at 12:48 p.m. for failing to use a turn signal at Chaparral Drive and Marshal Lane. The male driver showed signs of intoxication and was asked to step out to perform standard field sobriety tests. After probable cause was determined, driver was placed into handcuffs and secured in the rear of a unit. A tow truck was called to take possession of the vehicle. The driver was transported to the Socorro Police Department where he refused to give a breath sample. He was given all copies pertaining to his arrest and was incarcerated at Socorro County Detention Center.

June 28

An officer was dispatched at 8:56 p.m to speak with a female at the Valero on California Street about a verbal assault. The victim said she was approached by another female who started yelling at her. She said she wanted a report on the incident.

An officer was dispatched to a residence in the 300 block of Church Street where a man reported that an unknown male suspect was looking through the windows of his vehicle. He told the officer the male was also looking into the windows of the apartments near his residence. The officer was given a description of the suspect. The officer searched the area and did not locate the suspect.

A caller on Calle de San Miguel contacted police about an incident involving a plumber. He said he was having problems with the plumbing and asked his landlord to hire a plumber to fix the problem. He said a male came to the home to check the plumbing, but he did not think the plumber was the person he was claiming to be. He said when he tried to stop him from coming into the apartment the plumber knocked him over. The victim asked that the incident be documented.

Officers were dispatched to a residence in the 100 block of J.O. Gallegos Road for a possible fight. Officers met with a male who said his vehicle was damaged sometime last night. A driver’s side window had been shattered and the male thought his neighbor did it. After speaking with the male, the officer spoke with the neighbor by phone who said she was not at home and was not at her residence when the incident had occurred.

A victim on Mineral Way reported at 2:18 p.m. that she is breaking up with the suspect over verbal abuse. She stated the suspect has entered the home while she was sleeping and was watching her sleep. She said the suspect has punched holes in the wall during arguments and has previously made threats to harm her if she were to cheat on the suspect. The victim said they broke up but the suspect continues to call and text her. The lease for the apartment shows both the victim and suspect are on the lease. The victim was advised the suspect would have to be evicted from the apartment.

An officer was dispatched at 6:56 p.m. to look out for a white Dodge that was driving erratically in town. The officer located the vehicle in the 700 block of Highway 85 and performed a traffic stop. While speaking with the male driver, the suspect’s father started to interfere with the officer’s traffic stop. The male took off his jacket and approached the officer. A check with NCIC showed him to have a valid warrant for his arrest. The suspect kept trying to pull away when the officer attempted to handcuff him. He was arrested and incarcerated at Socorro County Detention Center.

An officer was dispatched at 7:10 p.m. to a residence in the 300 block of Fifth Street for a male who had been battered by his stepson. The victim said he was sitting on the couch and his stepson came over and punched him in the face three times. The officer noticed blood on the man’s face. The suspect was placed in handcuffs with the assistance of a deputy. The suspect also had blood on his face and refused to speak with the officers. EMTs were called to check on both males. The stepson was incarcerated at Socorro County Detention Center.

June 29

An officer was called to John Brooks Supermart for a male urinating on the building. The officer located the male suspect on the property. The male had previously been trespassed by the officer. The officer detained the suspect and transported him to the police department where he was issued a non-traffic citation and released.

Officers were called to the 1200 block of Sixth Street on a report of a woman yelling. The officers arrived and met with a male suspect who said he was in an argument with the female victim but he never hit her. The officer met with the female victim, who confirmed she and he were in a verbal argument but did not want charges filed. The officers left the scene but were later called back to meet with the victim who said the suspect was drunk and the two argued. When the suspect hit her she decided she had to leave but she dropped her keys and as she was picking up the keys the suspect kicked at her hands. She was able to exit the home and enter her car. The suspect then retrieved a crowbar from his vehicle and began approaching her. She said she was in fear of him and drove forward. The police then arrived. She said she wanted to have charges filed on the suspect. The officer did not see any injures to the victim.

A caller in the 1100 block of Chaparral reported a neighbor’s dog was loose and attacked the victim’s dog which was tied up in the yard. The caller said he tried to separate the dogs, but could not and said he had to shoot the suspect’s dog. The officer was told this was the second time the suspect’s dog was loose and attacked his dog. The officer explained to the suspect the dog was loose and was shot due to fighting with the caller’s dog. The suspect did not want the dog returned. The caller disposed of the suspect’s dog.
