The Chieftain is our go-to for local news, but I’ve recently noticed that there has been little to no COVID-19 coverage, even as Socorro County now reports 30 (last week) to 60 (this week) cases *per day*.

New Mexico cases are surging, and Socorro is clearly part of that trend.

What is happening? How are people getting infected? How many are getting really sick and having to be hospitalized? How are people reacting to this surge and what can we do about it? What are the vaccination trends here?

I can’t imagine I’m the only one wondering what is going on, and I’m especially wondering why the newspaper of record here isn’t covering this. We don’t need sensationalism, but we do need information about what is happening in our community!
