March 11, 1932–Jan. 27, 2021

Magali Terese Larose Renault was born March 11, 1932 and died of COVID-19 at age 88 on Jan. 27, 2021.

Magali, fondly known as Mike, came to this country from southern France when she was 22 (brave woman). She attended Hartnell College in Salinas, California, and married Salinas native Jacques Renault. After finishing school, the couple moved to Socorro.

A Girl Scout herself in France, Magali volunteered her time as a scout leader in Socorro for 17 years and volunteered her time teaching swimming lessons to disabled kids, some of whom she remained friends with until her death.

Magali also worked with mentally and physically handicapped adult members of her community; first as a bookkeeper and then as a volunteer until age 82. She was a member of San Miguel Parish and a survivor of World War 2. Magali was a gentle, elegant, and tough woman. Her daughters had an exceptional mother. She will be missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents Paul and Elise Larose (France), husband Jacques Renault (Socorro); and very close cousins Monique Rati, Doudou Affre and Jeannot Liautard, (all of France).

Magali is survived by daughters Elise Renault (NM) and Claire Renault (NM); granddaughters, Magali Rutschman (NM), Danielle Blazek (GA) and Gabrielle Blazek (MD); great-grandson Phoenix Rutschman (NM); close cousins Pierre, Lisette, Marie Francoise, Jean Pierre, and Remy Fouques (France); and very dear friends Kathe MacLaren, Stella Shoemaker, Mark Guay, Per Anders Gullo, Larry McWhorter, Alvaro Alvarado and Salomon Martinez.

Magali’s remains have been cremated. Post pandemic she will be placed in the family tomb in St Maximin, France.

A memorial service will be held in Socorro this Spring down by the river, to be announced in the Chieftain newspaper at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Socorro Animal Protective Association of Socorro (APAS) to help animals in need. https://www.socorroapas.org/formtest
