Maria “Marcella” Garcia

Feb. 15, 1936—January 2021

Garcia, Maria “Marcella”, age 84, passed away at her home in Socorro, NM.  She was born in Socorro, NM on February 15, 1936, to Frank and Avelina (Marquez) Montoya.

The family’s earliest memories were her constant care and love of her many nieces and nephews from the Garcia, Romero, Lopez, Lysen, Mendoza, Apodaca, Montoya, Carrejo/Lobitz families and her constant love and devotion of her husband Ignacio “Nayo”.

She attended Socorro High School and worked for Ben Franklin’s, Bank of Belen, Bank of Socorro, United New Mexico Bank, and was a public servant for the Socorro County Assessor’s Office.

She was very active in the local Democratic Party and instrumental in her husband’s election for Socorro Magistrate Judge.  Marcella loved her country and was active with the San Miguel Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Refugia Romero, Rosita Lopez, Arturo Montoya, David Montoya, Anita Lopez, Frances Apodaca, Domie Mendoza, and Barbara Lysen.

She is survived by her husband, Nayo, they would have celebrated their 52nd anniversary on February 1, 2021, and her many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at a later date.
