Socorro County rodeo athletes are making their mark on the New Mexico High School Rodeo Association’s circuit. Magdalena’s Jorianne Mirabal won the average in the pole bending in Lovington, where there were several solid performances by locals.

Mirabal weaved through her run in an impressive 21.43 on her second run to wrap up the pole bending after running another blistering time of 21.447.

Mia Castagnetto had a big weekend in the barrels with fourth and sixth-place runs of 18.713 and 18.572.

At the Hobbs rodeo in March, Socorro’s Ashlynn Jones was second in one of her barrel runs with a time of 16.049, while Castagnetto was 10th with a clocking of 16.514.

Mirabal and Castagnetto were third (22.552) and 10th (26.286) in the pole bending.
