Samuel Chavez

1938-2022

Samuel A. Chavez, age 83, was born in San Antonito, N.M. on September 16, 1938. He left the mortal world on April 29, 2022, with his loving wife Shirley Chavez by his side.

Samuel is preceded in death by his parents Efrain and Prudencia Chavez, brothers Antonio, Rudolfo, David, Mariano, Rafael and sisters, Floripa, Delfina, and Ramona, as well as great-grandson Samuel Clay.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years Shirley, sons Samuel Jr. and Luis (Lena), grandchildren Kayla, Kori, Cody, Cheyenne, Antonio and Abran. Great-grandchildren Abriam, Isiah, Julius, Mary Rae, and Allison. He is also survived by his sister Christella and brother Efrain (Sonny) Jr. along with many cousins, nephews and nieces.

Sam was a hard-working man who always provided for his family. He was always quick with a smile and joke. Sam was always friendly to all the people around him. Whether you were 10-years-old, playing baseball, or other sports, with his boys, or of his generation, he always had time to converse. Sam was not only a hard-working man, but a “people person” and generous with a smile. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him and called him friend, father, grandfather, husband, uncle, etc.

A rosary will be recited Friday, May 13, 2022, at 9:30 a.m. at San Miguel Church, immediately followed by the mass, celebrating Sam’s life. Burial will take place at San Antonito Cemetery after the proceedings. A short reception will follow at the San Antonio Community Center. Arrangements have been entrusted to Trujillo Family Funeral Home in Albuquerque, N.M. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to the American Cancer Society or any Hospice Care Facility.
