The Socorro School Board approved the district’s fiscal year 2024 budget at their regular meeting on May 22.

The salary schedules were also approved, pending negotiation with the teacher’s union. Additionally, the budget for Cottonwood Valley Charter School was approved, with some discussion about the differences in the calendars for CVCS and the regular schools in SCS. Cottonwood meets every other Friday, while Socorro has a four-day schedule.

The girls soccer team and SHS football teams were approved for summer travel to Colorado for training camps.

A preventative maintenance plan for FY24 was given the nod. Board president Dave Hicks thanked the staff for this very comprehensive report.

The choice of a five-year master planning firm was approved, which means that the contract was awarded to Visions and Planning. This is the same firm that has had the contract for the past two planning periods and had the best price, according to Superintendent Ron Hendrix. The plan itself will be determined after careful study.

The discipline policy for student assault/battery on a staff member had its third reading and was approved.

The board held an executive session for the performance evaluation of Hendrix before adjourning.
