Local students filled the Macey Center auditorium for a special showing of Catapult last Thursday afternoon.

The Catapult Dance Company were finalists in America’s Got Talent. The company performed as part of New Mexico Tech’s Performing Arts Series on the evening of Oct. 7. Elementary, middle and high school students from the Socorro Consolidated School District were able to watch the shadow dancers in a special performance during the daytime.

This was the first time since the pandemic that the Macey Center was able to offer a special performance in the auditorium for school kids, although hosting school trips has been a long term tradition for the center.

“Bringing the kids to the theater keeps them interested in arts and music,” said Macey Center Director Gloria Gutierrez-Anaya.

“Our hope is that they’re going to become art supporters and artists for the rest of their lives,” said Performing Arts Series Director Ronna Kalish.
