Socorro’s wrestling program was recognized at the most recent Socoro City Council meeting. Local Socorro wrestlers turned in a strong performance in the Hero’s Conquest regional event Saturday.

Local wrestlers turned in a strong performance in the Hero’s Conquest regional event Saturday at the Socorro Rodeo & Sports Complex.

The Socorro Warrior Junior Wrestling Team finished third among 107 teams in the folkstyle competition with 222 points.

Leading the way were winners David Gutierrez at 285 pounds, Kayden McNeil at 137 pounds, Julius Bernal at 137 pounds, Sasha Gonzalez 116 pounds and Tanner Winders at 97 pounds.

Jadrien Benavidez, McNeil, Kason Vanlandingham, Kiara Martinez and Winders were runners-up and Amelia Gonzalez, Jayden Kayser, Johnaven(CQ) Robles, Mariana Perez and Silvano Heras Quezada took home third-place medals.

More than 700 wrestlers from 15 states competed in the event.
