The Lady Warriors softball team dropped a District 3-3A doubleheader against Cobre on April 15 as hydration issues plagued play early in game one.

Just a couple of days after players wore layers in practice, pitcher Abrianna Romero needed a break to battle the heat – some of which was coming off the Cobre bats in a 20-0 run-ruled loss after three innings.

Cobre freshman Bella Saiz pitched a perfect game allowing no hits or walks. The Indians’ junior pitcher Destyni Martinez followed that up with a one-walk no-hitter in an 18-0 win for Cobre.

“Our level of excitement is still high, and the girls are still going through having to gain game experience because we are a young team,” Socorro coach Tracy Romero said. “We are communicating well and paying better attention on the basepaths.”

Socorro matches up against Hatch Valley on April 22 at home in another doubleheader with an 11 a.m. scheduled start.
