Socorro track and field headed to Mountain Top Relays

Jaylin Olguin and Ally Martinez had the best finishes for the Lady Warriors, and Marcus Armijo and Braden Mounyo were tops for the Warriors as Socorro traveled to Aztec for the Penny McKnight Invite on March 31.

Mounyo was the top-scoring athlete for Socorro as he placed second in the 110 (16.03) and 300-meter hurdles (43.10).

Armijo is still getting his running legs after an extended basketball season, including a trip to the New Mexico All-Stars game, and he is also playing baseball. He was the Warriors’ top finisher (12th) in the 100 meters with a clocking of 12.38 and leaped 18-11 in the long jump behind Jay Lee’s 19-1.25 (9th).

Martinez is another spring dual-sport athlete who plays golf while hefting the javelin, where she placed 4th with a throw of 81-9.

Olguin’s 4th place finish in the high jump (4-8) was the top finish among the Lady Warriors. Socorro’s results from the Penny McKnight Invite are below. The Warriors and Lady Warriors are headed to Mountain Top Relays in Cloudcroft on April 6 and will be close to home at the Stockyard Relays in Magdalena on April 13.

Special Invitation

Warriors Braden Mounyo and Jay have been invited to compete in the Marlyn Sepulveda All-State track meet at the University of New Mexico on April 1.

The meet features the top 8 athletes regardless of classification in each event.

Mounyo will take part in the 110, and 300-meter hurdles. He and Lee will both take part in the pole vault.
