Four Socorro youth wrestlers participated in the prestigious Virginia Challenge this past weekend after being selected to represent New Mexico and Socorro on the national stage in Virginia Beach.

“This is the toughest youth wrestling tournament in the country,” Socorro wrestling coach Joel Partridge said. “It’s an honor to be selected to represent New Mexico like this.”

The invitees are Socorro’s Kadeyn McNeil, Tanner Winders, Sterling Winders and Isiah Estrada.

“These guys worked and trained, and their hard work has paid off for them. I’m very proud of them,” Partridge said.

Socorro’s wrestling season gets underway Saturday when the team travels to Roswell to participate in Rio Hondo Invitational. The Warriors’ first home meet of the season is set for Jan. 4 against Cobre, and the annual Sammy V Tournament is slated for Jan. 14.
