Socorro’s Joshua Armijo poses with his trophy 5×5 bull elk. Photo “harvested” from his proud father, Lee Armijo’s Facebook.

It’s the season to fill the freezer, and Socorro’s Joshua Armijo did that the morning of Oct 14, when he harvested a beautiful 5×5 bull elk in Section 13.

Taken with a muzzleloader at a reported 206 yards, the elk was making the rounds with Armijo and his hunting buddies Richard Lopez and Carl Lewis, who helped him take the animal.

Before New Mexico Tech’s 49ers parade on Saturday, Armijo was making the rounds and stopped to visit with friends and family who admired his bounty.
