Normally at this time of the year, the Socorro General Hospital Spring Tea committee would be preparing for its 17th annual fundraiser. The Spring Tea has been held on the first Sunday in March for the past 16 years and is truly the social event of the year. Last year, the event raised more than $10,000.

A couple of weeks later, New Mexico was under a stay-at-home order due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As you can imagine, the hospital still needs our support and we’ve come up with a plan.

The Community Relations and Development Committee at SGH oversees the fundraising efforts and the disbursement of funds for the improvements and projects at the hospital. A current priority is the renovation of 16 patient rooms, which would include updated flooring and furnishings.

To help address that need without this year’s Spring Tea, the committee has established Donna’s Fund.

Donna Langemeier has served on both the Spring Tea and the Community Relations and Development committees for several years. She was our top ticket seller and advertiser through her business, Donna’s Hair Salon. She provided coveted recipes for the menu and baked those recipes to serve 120 to 150 donors. She donated silent auction baskets, collected money and helped with bookkeeping. She sold daffodils.

Donna was involved in all aspects of fundraising and would do anything and everything to raise money. Donna’s Fund will support the renovation of patient rooms at SGH while honoring an amazing woman in our community with a passion for the work of the hospital.

If you would like to join this effort, gifts can be made online at www. phs.org/give. Donors can choose the “other” under the designations menu and write SGH — Donna’s Fund.

Checks can also be made payable to Presbyterian Healthcare Foundation with the reference: SGH — Donna’s Fund and mailed to:
