Chieftain publisher Robert D. Klipsch

DEFENSOR CHIEFTAIN PUBLISHER Robert D. Klipsch was named the president of the New Mexico Press Association Saturday as the group met in Santa Fe for its annual meeting. Klipsch had been serving as first vice president of the organization under Stuart Beck, publisher of the Las Vegas Daily Optic. Jack Sitton, co-publisher of the Farmington Daily Times, assumed the first vice-presidency, and A.B. Collado, publisher of El Hispano in Albuquerque, was named second vice president.

THE SOCORRO WARRIORS suffered their second straight conference setback when they were blanked out by the Cobre Indians last Friday 12-0. Socorro’s offense bogged down and just couldn’t push the ball across the goal line, twice being stopped within the 20-yard line. Cobre struck paydirt early in the contest taking a 6-0 advantage halfway through the first quarter, then added a little insurance as they ploughed across for another six-pointer with 15 seconds left in the third frame to put the game out of reach as the Warriors struggled to try and get some kind of an offensive drive going.
