THREE SOCORRO FIREMEN are undergoing training in special, advanced lifesaving techniques, with an emphasis on river and canal recovery. The three- Tim Fishburn, Mark Mercer and Rick Gustafen- have met with the Bernalillo aquatic team and are to receive additional training in water recovery. The program was initiated in response to the recent deaths in the channel. The Socorro Fire Department, the Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District and the Sheriff’s Department are beginning their annual spring campaign to make the public aware of the dangers of canals, the channel and the river, in hopes that education will prevent any more accidental deaths.
