Tobias Saiz

1939-2023

Tobias M. Saiz, age 84, entered his heavenly peace on May 12, 2023, in Socorro. Toby was born on May 9, 1939.  He served 4 years in the National Guard.  He was a heavy equipment operator in the Bureau of Reclamation and retired in 1994.

While Toby’s first love was his wife, Polly, married 64 years, his passion for horses was displayed through training, boarding, breeding, and racing.  Toby lived a long life of farming and raising farm animals.  His strong work ethic never missed an opportunity to emphasize his genuine heart and determined personality.

There was never a race too difficult for him.  Toby loved spending time with his loving and faithful family.  He will be missed by his friends, and family for his bold personality, ability to make the room full laughter because of his sense of humor and jokes. Toby touched the lives of every individual he encountered, from his friends, his trainer, and his jockeys. He left a lasting impression.

Toby is preceded in death by his parents Benito and Francesquita Saiz, daughter Theresa Saiz, brothers; Eusebio Saiz, Juanito Saiz, Ruperto Saiz, and Aristeo Saiz.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years., Polly Santillanes Saiz; his adult children, Janice Blevins (Joe), and Toby Chris Saiz.  Grandchildren, Paula Raley (Jason), Erika Baxter, James Chavez, Sandra Griego (Eric), Clarisse Chavez, and Bobby Nash (Kierstin).  Great-grandchildren, Jacob Raley, Alissa Raley, Cullen Baxter, Eli Griego, Harper Baxter, Brixton Holguin, and Bennett Nash; his sisters Noverta Benavidez and Marcella Chavez, and his many nieces and nephews.
