Veronica Gonzales Romans

1928 –  2022

Veronica Gonzales Romans (93) was born on December 1, 1928, in Albuquerque, N.M. to Colastico Tais Sr (AKA Thais) and Rufina Armijo Tais. She passed peacefully on September 17, 2022, in Mesa Ariz., surrounded by loved ones. She will be laid to rest in Arnold, Nebraska.

Veronica grew up in Socorro and Hurley, New Mexico, moving at a young age to Los Angeles, California. She also lived in New York and lived in the Phoenix area, where she resided since 1966. She was preceded in death by her brothers; Colastico Tais, Jr. and Ernesto Thais and her sisters; Clara Nevarez, Elsie Borrell, Marian Vallejos, and Erlinda Thais. She is survived by her sisters; Rose Salas, Mary Ellen Arizaga, and Virginia Gonzales and many nieces and nephews.

She is also survived by her husband of three years, Duane Romans. Duane never left her side during her illness and on her last day. They enjoyed eight+ wonderful years together dancing, taking many trips to Nebraska and other vacation spots.

Veronica loved her large family and was always the center of attention because she was the second oldest of 10 children. She made friends easily and kept them for life.

Veronica was deeply religious. She was raised Catholic and had also attended Church of Christ. She believed in praying and calling God for help at her most trying times.

Special thanks to Veronica’s friend Roberta, whom she loved like a daughter, and to her nieces; Donna Lisa Ebler, Linda Thais, Sharon Garcia, Sara Keeton, Michelle Reckner and Rachel Tais, who visited her and prayed for her.
