The next time Socorro High School’s Warriors hit the gridiron, they will be playing on an award-winning football field. Lone Mountain Contracting of Bosque Farms, New Mexico has won the American Sports Builders Award for the Eddie Castaneda Stadium at Socorro High School.

According to a press release, Lone Mountain was notified recently of this year’s national award.

“LMC is proud to have been an integral part of this grassroots community effort,” the release said. “LMC worked with Socorro Consolidated Schools, Socorro County, A1 Concrete, and many donors and volunteers in making the dream of a new track and field become a reality.”

The contractor says credit for the award must be shared with local entities.

“Not only did the Socorro Consolidated School Board go above and beyond in seeking all possibilities for a new stadium—the students and community jumped in too,” the statement said. “LMC designed a facility that fit the needs and vision of the school, and then to cut costs, the football program and boosters completed the demolition of the existing grass field themselves.”

Socorro County operators assisted in the demolition of the old track, A1 Concrete of Socorro donated materials for new curbs, and the SHS Ag/Shop Program built the running track drain covers as their spring project.

The ASBA Awards Committee and Board of Directors recognized Lone Mountain Contracting’s project, the Socorro High School Eddie Castaneda Field, as a winner in the Single Field category of its annual awards program.

“There were many projects submitted this year that brought out excellent examples of our members’ work; it gives us pleasure to announce your success,” the ASBA Awards Committee stated. This will be Lone Mountain Contracting’s 14th appearance in the ASBA award show.

“This project was a pleasure to be a part of, and Lone Mountain Contracting handled every aspect from design to grand opening,” said Nick Blea, President, “I am very proud to be recognized for our outstanding team and work at the Eddie Castaneda Field.”
