A Memorial Day observance will be held at the Isidro Baca Veteran’s Park on Monday, May 27, at 11 a.m.

Lt. Col. Dave Finley said the goal is to make the event more personal and honor the lives that have been lost.

“We are asking our speakers to tell a story about someone who died in combat or in the military service. There are so many of them, over a million of people in the last 250 years and that can get to be just a statistic,” Finley said.

The program will include the Civil Air Patrol’s presentation of colors, Tori Murillo’s rendition of the national anthem, and an innvocation from Daun Medaris of Forget Me Not Veteran’s Center.

Lt. Col. Dave Finely will give an introduction, followed by remarks by Ravi Bhasker, Chuck Zimmerly, William Armijo, Daun Medaris, and Tara Jaramillo.

Johannes Heynekamp and Stefan Malone will perform bagpipes. The 93rd Troop Command of the New Mexico National Honor Guard and the Socorro Volunteer Honor Guard will do the Rifle Salute, followed by George and Richard Murillo on taps.
