THE FIRE DEPARTMENT RESPONDED to calls on March 29 and March 30. On the twenty-ninth, the barn and contents, on the Bammet property south of town were burned down by the time the fire truck reached the fire. Ten men responded to the alarm. The loss is estimated at $1,400. March thirtieth, a shed and building on the premises of Padilla property were burned. Nine men of the Hose Company responded and were joined by the School of Mines men and equipment. In both fires the causes are reported as unknown.

April 12, 1951
THE CONTRACT FOR the new $200,000, ten room school building and convent in Socorro has been let to O.G. Bradbury, lowest of five bidders, according to an announcement made by his excellency, The Most Reverend Edwin V. Byrne, Archbishop of Santa Fe.
Bids were opened at Santa Fe, April 4.
Members of the Socorro Council of the Knights of Columbus have organized the men of the parish and are rapidly completing the job of demolishing the old buildings and clearing the grounds so construction can start without delay.

April 19, 1951
HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL competition will come to a climax for Socorro’s Warriors next Friday, April 27, at Mountainair when they will compete for the district 12 baseball championship. Socorro, with a 2-2 record will play the undefeated Mountainair Mustangs.
The winner will play the champion of another district; the champion of that encounter will compete in the state tourney.
The Warriors, though inactive for the past week, have been going through rigorous drills at the Warrior Field.
Coach Seery expressed confidence in his players, commenting, “the boys will give Mountainair a close game, and with some head’s-up ball-playing should be able to win it.”
Tentative batters are Eugene Torres and Johnny Mounyo.
The other positions will be filled as follows: (tentative) Max Gonzales, first; James Patterson, second; Johnny Vallejos, shortstop; S. Gonzales, third; Felix Chavez, Fred Chavez, and Roman Romero in the outfield.
