Socorro celebrated its seniors Alex Amaro and Angel Perez, and the Warriors matched Hatch Valley blow for blow early before slipping in a pair of District 3-3A baseball games against the Bears.

Bears 17 Warriors 8
Making the most of his Senior Day, Amaro had two RBI as the Warriors were held to six hits, but Socorro used small-ball tactics to collect eight runs.

The Warriors matched Hatch’s run production, tying the game at 2-2, 4-4, and 5-5 before the Bears took advantage of Socorro’s errors to pull ahead.

Jacob Angel went 2-3 at the plate and also had a walk to set himself up to score three runs for the Warriors. Perez, Cenyon Scarborough, Sebastian Mercado, Cullen Baxter, and Issac Vega each notched a run.

Scarborough had the biggest hit for the Warriors with a two-run triple, and Amaro had a double.

The Warriors swiped six total bases, with Jacob Angel stealing three, Perez having two, and Mercado taking one.

Joseph Rivera took the loss for Socorro. He pitched four innings and struck out four batters. Perez and Scarborough closed out the game.

Bears 16 Warriors 5
The Warriors tried to rally late in the fourth and fifth innings with five runs, but the Bears used an eight-run fourth to put the game out of reach.
Angel and Mercardo each had a pair of hits, but the Warriors had trouble getting the bat on the ball, with only seven hits as a team. Amaro, Perez, and Vega had the remaining three hits.

Socorro’s five errors were the Warriors’ most significant problem.
Back-to-back doubles by Perez and Angel led to the Warriors’ first run in the fourth inning.

In the fifth, Amaro’s RBI single scored Mercado. A fielder’s choice by Perez scored Vega. A single by Angel drive in Baxter, and a steal of home by Perez tallied four runs in the frame.

Scarborough took the loss after giving up four earned runs. Angel closed the game and, despite throwing 40 of his 69 pitches for strikes, couldn’t keep the Bears at bay.
