It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Winona Darlene Armijo (nee Hodo), cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who peacefully departed from this world on February 28, 2024, at her home in Albuquerque. Winona was surrounded by love as she embarked on her journey beyond, joining her beloved husband Sam, who preceded her in death in 2001, and his siblings in eternal rest. She was also reunited with her father, Callen Hodo, her mother Mary Lormand, and her step-father James Lormand, who had gone before her.

Winona’s legacy lives on through her six devoted children: Sammy; Yvonne (Kevin); Jackie (Anthony), and her son Levi; William (Donna), along with their children Kimberly (Joseph), David, Samantha (Kyle), Christin, and Donovan; Jon (Ann), and their children Joshua (Danielle), Cheyenne (Cody), and Kaylee (Adonai); and Linda (Brett). She also leaves behind a cherished lineage of great-grandchildren: Jazzlyn, Jayden, Cash, Landon, Zoey, and Indy, as well as her sisters-in-law Mela, Dolores, and Delfina Armijo.

Born in Post, Texas, in 1934, Winona’s life was a testament to resilience, love, and devotion. She called Socorro, New Mexico her home for most of her life, where she raised her family and became an integral part of her community. Family and faith were the pillars of her existence, and her warmth and kindness touched the lives of all who knew her. Winona was the heart and soul of our family, and her absence leaves a void that can never be filled.

As we bid farewell to our beloved matriarch, we take solace in the countless memories we shared and the profound impact she had on our lives. Her love knew no bounds, extending “from here to Texas to Louisiana to Okinawa and to the whole world.” Rest in peace, dear Mom. Your spirit will forever guide and inspire us. A private family service will be held at a later date to honor her remarkable life and legacy. Forever in our hearts, Mom, you will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
