Statewide, the primary elections had 25.33 percent voter turnout, with 261,452 ballots cast.

Highlights

Although the race was tight in Socorro County, 55 percent to 44 percent, Tara Jaramillo won against Ravi Bhasker in the Democratic primary for 38th District Representative. Jaramillo took 65 percent to Bhasker’s 35 percent of the votes across the three counties in the district. Jaramillo will face Republican primary winner Sandy Hammack, who took 74 percent of the votes across all three counties.

Socorro County Sheriff Department Captain Lee Armijo won the Republican primary for Socorro County Sheriff and will face Democratic candidate Demecio Silva in November’s general election.

Gilbert Peralta is expected to be Socorro County’s new probate judge after winning the Democratic primary. There were no Republican candidates for probate judge, so he will run unopposed in the general election.

Mark Ronchetti won the Republican primary for governor with 58 percent of the vote statewide and will face Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham in November.
