The City of Socorro passed multiple resolutions during the city council meeting on July 26.

Resolution No. 21-07-26 for the participation in the Local Government Road Fund Program administered by the New Mexico Department of Transportation passed which allows the city and DOT to enter into a Cooperative MAP Agreement.

The total cost of the project is $330,372 and 75 percent of the project, $247,779, will be funded by DOT and the City will pay 25 percent, $82,593 along with any costs that exceed the original amount.

The agreement ends on June 30, 2023.

The council approved Resolution No. 21-07-26b for the participation in the Program of the South Central Council of Governments, Inc. for fiscal year 2021-22.

Participating in the program allows the city to implement the work program that is established by the SCCOG Board of Directors. The SCCOG will provide the City of Socorro with technical, grant program planning, economic development, strategic overall planning and management assistance. The SCCOG will also provide information about statewide, regional and community initiatives.

The city will have to pay $2,633 for annual dues and the membership goes until June 30, 2022.

Resolution No. 21-07-26c was passed regarding a lease-purchase agreement for the purpose of financing a mechanical street sweeper.

The City of Socorro will enter the lease-purchase agreement with the Government Capital corporation and the agreement will be a qualified tax-exempt obligation. City Treasurer and Administrator Donald Monette will be the authorized signer for the agreement.

Budget Resolution No. 36 was passed to increase the budget by $8,000 for the Youth Center. The increase was needed to allow for grant awards and expenditures.

Four new businesses were also approved during the meeting.

UnbeLEEvably Blessed was on the list to be approved but owner Shaye Lee did not show up to the city council meeting for the discussion of her home occupation permit. According to the permit, Lee would be selling and creating awards, t-shirts and crafts, including engraving trophies.
