Edward Savedra

1932-2023

The Savedra Family is saddened to announce the passing of Edward Nelson Savedra.  Edward passed away peacefully at his home in Socorro, NM on March 29, 2023 surrounded by his loving wife of 69 years, Martha and his children and loved ones. Edward was born on April 6, 1932 in Roswell, NM.

He was predeceased by his parents, Alvino and Nestora; daughter Christine Gutierrez, granddaughters Crystal Gutierrez and Mariah Garza, and grandsons Floyd Savedra, Jr. and Seth Gustafson.

Edward grew up in Roswell, where he worked from the young age of 9, delivering prescriptions and newspapers for five cents and working as a caddy at the local golf course for tips.  He was always supporting his family and bought his first home for his mother and father at the age of 14.  In 1954, he met Martha Romo, his lifelong devoted wife and together they have eight children: Christine Gutierrez (Leroy), Danny (Roseann), Larry (Luana), Eddie (Annette), Floyd (Margaret), Renee Hidalgo (Chris), Paul (Shawna), and Billy.

Edward enlisted in the U.S. Army on Nov 17, 1954 and was honorably discharged on Nov 16, 1956.  Edward and Martha moved to Socorro, NM in 1963 where they started their family business, Edward’s Construction.  Edward was self-taught in the trade of masonry and established a reputation for being a man of integrity, honesty, and never settled for anything less than doing things the right way.

Chances are if you look around Socorro; perhaps a home around NM Tech or a local school, there’s a good chance Edward poured the foundation, built the fence, or laid the brick.  Edward was the patriarch of the Savedra family, the man who built the foundation and led by example in his faith in God, family values and strong work ethic.

He spent his 90 blessed years sharing his wisdom, love, and funny sarcastic jokes and teasing with his family and friends.  Edward’s favorite things to do when he was not working, included playing his guitar, hunting and camping, watching boxing and old western movies, and he could always be found eating some cookies or a chocolate candy.

Edward’s greatest accomplishment and joy was his happy and blessed life with Martha and their children.  Edward leaves behind his wife Martha, their 7 children, 17 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, sister Helen Bartlett, and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Edward’s teachings and legacy have been profoundly impactful to his family and will continue to live on in their hearts forever!
