The Socorro Fire Department raised the American flag on Monday for the memorial escort by police officers from across the state to honor slain Alamogordo police officer Anthony Ferguson. Firefighters, police officers and first responders gathered along I-25 at the north-end bridge in a show of support.

On July 15, Ferguson, 41, was shot by shotgun at close range after a traffic stop and foot pursuit. He died from his injuries the following day.

Ferguson was an 11-year veteran of the Alamogordo Police Department.

The suspect is in custody following treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. He is charged with multiple counts, including attempted first-degree murder.
