On Monday, the New Mexico High School Coaches Association recognized three Magdalena athletes with All-State honors after they led their teams to the high school state basketball tournaments.

Joseph Zamora picked up the top honors with a selection to the All-State first team. Starting in his second state title game, Zamora netted a game-high 17 points, pulled down seven rebounds and passed out six assists.

Jeffert Stuteville will be back next year for the Steers after starting at post his season. For his efforts in the 2023-24 season Stuteville is a second team All-State honoree.

It’s not a surprise junior Jorianne Mirabal is on the All-State team but the leading scorer on a team that lost to the eventual state champion being an honorable mention seems a rung or two low on the ladder.
