The New Mexico Tech Performing Arts Series will once again be hosting the summer residency of Missoula Children’s Theatre. The residency includes auditions, workshops and presentations for “The Secret Garden.”

AUDITIONS

An audition will be held Monday, June 19, at the NM Tech Macey Center from 10 a.m. to noon.

Those auditioning should arrive at 9:45am and plan to stay for the full two hours. Some of the cast members will be asked to stay for a rehearsal immediately following the audition.

Among the roles to be cast are Mary Lennox, Martha Sowerby, Dickon Sowerby, Susan Sowerby, Colin Craven, Archibald Craven, Ayah, Mrs. Medlock, Doctor Craven, Ben Weatherstaff, Robin Redbreast, the Bugs that Rock, the Canadian Geese, the Moor Folk, the Fireflies and the Secret Garden. All students from grades 1-12 are encouraged to audition. No advance preparation is necessary. Assistant directors will also be cast to assist with the technical aspects of the production.

All students cast in the show, including assistant directors, are required to pay a $10 registration fee, right after the audition, if possible.

REHEARSALS

Missoula Children’s Theatre touring productions are complete with costumes, scenery, and props. MCT Tour Actor/Directors will conduct rehearsals throughout the week from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. each day.

FREE WORKSHOPS

There are three free workshops, open to children in grades K-5.

Kids do not have to have auditioned or be in the play to attend these workshops.

(1) Improv will be Tuesday, June 20 at 3:30 p.m. at NM Tech Macey Center.

(2) Non-Verbal Storytelling will be Wednesday, June 21 at 3:30 p.m. at the Socorro Youth Center.

(3) Acting will be on Thursday, June 22, 3:30 p.m. at the Socorro Public Library

PUBLIC PRESENTATION

“The Secret Garden” will be presented on Saturday, June 24, at the NM Tech Macey Center, and the public is invited to attend. Shows are at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Tickets for adults are $5, youth under 17 are admitted free.
