Saturday’s WomenFest activities at the New Mexico Tech campus celebrated Women’s History Month with art, speakers and live music.

Festivities included drum circles from the Socorro Drum Tribe, local artists selling their wares, live music from the likes of the Pistils, information on the Socorro Farmers Market, hula hooping hosted by Socorro High School’s Charisma Blues dance team, and mandala painting.

Nicole White taught the mandala painting.

“I think mandala painting is a wonderful introduction to painting because it’s freeform,” she said. That makes the project lower pressure for participants who may be hesitant to try out painting, which White said is wonderful, “because we all have that creativity in us.”
