Down 17-11 at halftime, Socorro’s Lady Warriors rallied for a 33-31 comeback win over Capitan on Nov. 29 to even their season record at 1-1.

New head coach Brad Bailey had just 12 players to rely on this season and getting the Lady Warriors’ first win was much needed as he installs a new offense.

“They’re doing it, and they didn’t give up because we were down,” Bailey said. “We went into an offense that was designed to be pretty deliberate. We got a couple of nice open shots and knocked them down, and we’re tickled to death to pull that one out.”

After getting one point between them in the first half, Jalyndria Jackson and Tamra Fowler opened things up to score 13 of the Lady Warriors’ 22 second-half points.

Leading scorer Faith Lucero spread her nine points with six in the first half as she and Alex Crespin (4) provided 10 of Socorro’s 11 points.

Bailey is far from done when it comes to having the Lady Warriors understand his offensive game plan, and he’s not dumbing it down.

“I don’t know if it’s great, but I think it’ll be adequate. I’ve been emphasizing that I really want to see happen is I want to see I’m looking down the floor is pass, pass, pass, always making the other team think about whether we can break or not,” Bailey said. “I want us to make them run, and I want to make the other team constantly think about us — we did that a little bit against Tohatchi.”

Socorro will be playing host to Silver City on Dec. 8 at 5:30 p.m. and West Las Vegas on Dec. 15 at 6:30 p.m.

The current Lady Warriors’ roster includes Kaedyn Gonzalez, Jalyndria Jackson, Tamra Fowler, Alex Crespin, Ariana Crespin, Jasmine Alvarado, Ashley Navrotsky, Arianna Silva, Tatjana Castillo, Madison Foss, Faith Lucero and Jaylin Gonzales.
