Junior Josh Baca is a multi-sport athlete and a rising star for the Magdalena Steers. Josh lead Magdalena’s football team to a second straight victory this past week.

Question: How long have you been a quarterback for the Steers?

Answer: This is my third season. I worked my way up to this point ever since freshman year. I’ve been playing this game ever since elementary school on the playground.

Q: What is the most important thing when it comes to playing football?

A: Not being afraid. You can’t let the other team come at you. The most important thing is going at them from the opening snap.

Q: What sports do you play outside of football, and which is your favorite?

A: I play basketball, baseball and track. Basketball is my favorite. I feel like that sport is the most tiring and I’ve always loved running around. We have a great coaching staff, which Magdalena has across the board no matter the sport, but that is the most fun for me. I’m pure hustle, I’m not the biggest player. But I will always give you everything I have whether it’s on the field or the court.

Q: How did you find yourself as the head quarterback of the Steers as a junior?

A: It wasn’t planned. I was expecting to be playing a skill position. Long story short, we had a QB out and the coaches threw me out there.

Q: As a leader, how do you want to help the team get better every week?

A: I want us to polish up our mistakes, myself included. Just try to play as perfect football as we can. I always tell the guys coming up what I was always told, never stop hustling.

Q: What is your teams’ biggest weakness right now?

A: Attitude and effort. We need this team to be where they are supposed to be every practice and every game in order for us to be successful. We certainly have the tools to be a championship team.

Q: Is there anything your teammates for the most part do not know about you?

A: Not much, I’m a pretty open guy. I have nothing to hide. I suppose the fact that my first dream job was to be a pilot. I had a teacher in the past that was big into Aerospace tech so it got me into it for a while.

Q: If you could meet one famous person, living or dead, who would that be?

A: Michael Jordan. He’s the biggest inspiration for me. His mentality is unmatched and to get just a few details inside his head would be awesome.
