Mayor Ravi Bhasker released a city announcement Thursday night that Socorro’s city-wide mask mandate has also been lifted in conjunction with Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham’s removal of the statewide mask mandate for indoor public settings.

The city-wide mandate was implemented in April 2020. Schools and businesses can follow their own policies regarding indoor masking.

The Socorro Consolidated School District announced masks would be optional in all Socorro schools following the Governor’s announcement Thursday. A subsequent announcement was made on Friday that the School Board would have to determine if the district’s mask mandate could be lifted and would hold a special meeting to do so at 5:30 p.m., Monday, Feb. 21. The Board unanimously decided that masks would be optional in Socorro schools.

Masks are optional in Magdalena Municipal Schools.

The Navajo Nation’s face mask requirement is still in place.

Mask usage is still required in hospitals, assisted living centers and certain other health care settings, as well as in state correctional and juvenile justice facilities.
