Oct. 9

An officer noticed a four-wheeler driving on a city street at 9:40 p.m. When the officer attempted to stop the driver on Blue Canyon Road, he fled. The officer chased the male into a secluded area where the four-wheeler got stuck. The driver had no proof of insurance and no registration. He was arrested and charged with resisting, evading, or obstructing an officer and was incarcerated at Socorro County Detention center.

Oct. 10

An officer was called to the 900 block of Michigan Avenue in reference to possible fraud. The victim stated she hired the suspect to do some repairs on her residence. She said he did one repair on the residence and offered to do more. She agreed and paid him in advance, but he did not do the job.

An officer was called about a firearm found on the charter school playground. The officer met with the reporting person who stated a firearm was located on the playground near the fence. A teacher removed it from the playground and secured it in his vehicle and then turned it over to the reporting person. The officer secured the firearm in his vehicle and conducted a walk-through of the playground and did not locate anything else. The firearm was placed into evidence.

Officers were called to a shoplifting at Walmart. The officers arrived and noticed a male walking out of the store. One officer met with him outside while the other officer met with the reporting person who said the other male was still in the store and had been observed taking a cell phone case out of its box and then returning the empty box back on the rack. The officer recognized him to possibly be someone who shoplifted before. The officer asked him if the red vehicle in the parking lot was his, and he stated yes. The officer had recognized the red vehicle from the previous incident as well. The male outside was released. The suspect’s red car was towed, and the suspect placed under arrest. During the tow inventory, the officer located narcotics in the vehicle. The suspect was transported to SCDC and booked on possession of a controlled substance and shoplifting.

An officer responded at 7:43 p.m. to a residence in the 300 block of High School Road where a bicycle was stolen from the yard. The bike is a gray Beach Cruiser valued at $200.

An officer was called at 9:07 a.m. to the Socorro Police Department to speak with a male on the phone. The victim stated he owns a residence in the 600 block of Nicholas Avenue and noticed his security cameras gone. He was able to get screenshots of a male suspect in the process of removing the cameras. He forwarded the screenshots to the officer, who was able to identify the suspect.

An officer picked up a male on Sixth Street at 7:18 p.m. known for having a warrant for his arrest. While performing a search, the officer found drugs. The male was arrested and incarcerated at Socorro County Detention Center on the warrant as well as possession of a controlled substance.

An officer was patrolling on Blue Canyon Road at 9:32 p.m. and pulled a vehicle over for running a stop sign. As the officer was speaking with the driver, the officer noticed marijuana smoke emitting from the vehicle. He was asked if he was smoking marijuana and the driver said yes. The officer had the driver exit the vehicle. After he was patted down and placed in the patrol unit, the officer approached the vehicle and spotted a firearm on the driver’s seat. The vehicle was secured pending a search warrant due to the driver being a person of interest in a shooting earlier in the week. The vehicle was towed to the Socorro Police Department, and the driver was given standard field sobriety tests. Once completed, the officer placed him under arrest for the suspicion of driving while under the influence. The driver was transported to Socorro General hospital where he refused a blood draw. He was booked on the charges of driving while under the influence, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a controlled substance, and driving on a revoked/suspended license, as well as no registration or car insurance. The phone located on the driver was secured at the police station pending a search warrant.

Oct. 11

An officer was called at 3:50 p.m. to a residence on Abeyta Avenue on a vandalism complaint. The victim said objects in her yard were moved and Christmas decorations were taken down. She believed a male from an incident the day prior was the suspect. The officer attempted to meet with the male at his residence, but he was not home.

An officer was called at 6:05 p.m. to a residence in the 400 block of Bullock where a window had been broken. The victim said he was unsure when the damage happened but that he needed a report. He valued the window at $200.

Oct. 12

An officer was patrolling on Duggins Lane at 6:52 p.m. and pulled over the driver of an off-road vehicle on the street. The rider was unable to provide his license or paperwork for the bike. The officer ran the VIN through NCIC which showed the registration had expired. The officer had the rider empty his pockets. While the rider was placing his items back into his pocket the officer heard something rattling around the inside of a flashlight the rider had. A check of the flashlight turned up narcotics. The male was placed under arrest and transported to SCDC where he was booked on possession of a controlled substance, as well as no registration, no insurance, and operating an OHV in the city.

An officer was called at 10:04 p.m. to Burger King in reference to a stolen cell phone. The victim stated she left her phone on the counter as she was cleaning the area. Her manager reviewed the security camera video, which showed the suspect grabbing something off of the counter and then leaving the building. The victim attempted to get a location on her phone via Find My iPhone but was unable to. She provided the serial number. The officer attempted to locate the suspect but was unable to.

An officer was called at 1:33 a.m. to Tractor Supply in reference to a burglar alarm. The officer noticed a vehicle leaving the area and attempted to make a traffic stop, but the driver refused to stop and entered Interstate 25 northbound. Officers pursued the vehicle until mile marker 185 where they terminated the pursuit. Valencia County deputies with a Belen police officer deployed spike strips and the vehicle came to a stop at mile marker 190. The officer assisted in a high-risk stop on the vehicle. Seven males were located in the vehicle and detained. The officer learned that all males were undocumented. Homeland Security was contacted, and the officer was advised the driver and another male were involved in an incident the month prior. Homeland Security advised they would not be taking over the investigation. All males were released. The juvenile driver was charged with resisting evading or obstructing an officer.

Oct. 13

An officer was called at 2:39 p.m. to Neel Avenue in reference to possible child abuse. The reporting person stated the child made a comment to other classmates about being struck in the face by his father. The child’s mother arrived and was informed of the allegations. The mother stated they do discipline their children, but it is usually by time outs or taking electronics away from them. The mother allowed the officer to interview the child without her present. The child stated his father made him play a game that he did not want to play. The child said after playing the game for a while, he told his father he did not want to play and that his father struck him across his face. The officer did not notice any signs of battery. The father arrived, and the officer informed him of the allegations. The father stated he does discipline his children but usually by time outs or by taking away electronics. He stated if it is warranted, he does spank his children on the butt with an open hand. He said he was play-fighting with his child the night of the incident and could have possibly struck him while playing. The child was released to his parents and a CYFD report was made.

An officer was patrolling at 9:05 a.m. and noticed a male in the 1100 block of California matching the description of a male from a report on a stolen cell phone from Burger King the night before. The officer met with the male and read him his Miranda warning and explained he was investigating an incident from the night prior. The male stated he did not have the phone anymore because he traded it for narcotics. He was placed under arrest and transported to SCDC where he was booked on his charges.

An officer was called to Best Western in reference to a vehicle theft. The victim said the vehicle was parked at approximately 8:30 p.m. the night prior but noticed it was gone at approximately 7:50 this morning. The victim said the keys had been left inside the vehicle, along with two bicycles on the back of the vehicle. The vehicle was entered into NCIC as stolen.

Oct. 14

An officer was called at 6:52 p.m. to a residence on McCutcheon Avenue in reference to a possible battery. The victim said he and his girlfriend got into an argument earlier in the day and she decided to leave and stay at her mother’s for the day. The victim said he was leaning into his girlfriend’s vehicle giving his child a goodbye kiss when she began driving away. He stated he was not injured. The victim said his girlfriend’s mother lives in a trailer park but is unsure of the space number. He provided the officer with a phone number for his girlfriend. The officer attempted to contact the female but was unable to make contact. The male later stated he did not want to pursue charges.

An officer was called to a residence in the 800 block of Sean Avenue in reference to a domestic. The officer met with the male outside of the residence who stated he and his girlfriend got into a physical altercation. He said he was cooking food for their children when his girlfriend arrived home and began yelling at him for the children not being fed. He said the girlfriend jumped on him to stop him when he tried to leave. The officer noticed signs of battery. He said his shirt was torn during the incident, and her glasses were broken. The officer met with the female who said she arrived home and got upset due to her children being hungry. She and he began wrestling on the ground and said that he slapped her glasses off of her face during the altercation. The officer did not notice any signs of battery on the female. The male was asked to leave the residence. The report will be forwarded to the DA’s office.

An officer was called at 3 a.m. to Circle K in reference to a male needing to be removed. The officer arrived and told him he was no longer allowed on the property and needed to leave. The male walked off the property, but then returned. He was placed under arrest and transported to SCDC where he was booked on charges of criminal trespass and concealing identity.
